… January 2022 after an extensive tour through the world of PLUTO. And that’s exactly what it is – so let’s step inside together.
The inconspicuous entrance of the PLUTO gay sauna on Viehofer Straße still marks the beginning of the narrow former cinema passage. But once you pass the reception area, one of the largest men’s saunas in Germany opens up before you. You will be surprised! Spread across approximately 1,600 sqm over three spacious floors, you can finally leave everyday life behind.
First, you enter the generously sized changing area, where around 400 lockers line up side by side. This is where everyday life – with all its badges and burdens – is left behind, a towel is wrapped around your waist, and you simply follow your instincts toward pleasure.
From here, you move naturally into the central bar and lounge area on the middle level. Among other things, you will find the large Finnish sauna with a panoramic window overlooking the swimming pool with counter-current system. You can reach the upper and lower levels via spacious spiral staircases that still reflect the 1960s architecture of the former hardware department store.
On the upper floor, you will find a cinema train, relaxation cabins, and numerous cruising areas. On the lower level, you can enjoy a 4 × 4 meter bubbling whirlpool, an oriental-inspired hammam with a large heated marble slab, our new XXL labyrinth steam sauna, a sanarium with temperatures between 50°C and 60°C, and various other wellness options for relaxing and indulging yourself.
And there are plenty of people here looking to enjoy themselves – at any time of day or night, you will meet like-minded visitors from a catchment area that extends into the Netherlands and Belgium. On weekends, up to 600 sauna guests are spread throughout the day across the different levels of our spacious venue.

The PLUTO offers you a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna and the sanarium/biosauna.
There are infusions in the Finnish sauna every hour at these times:

FINNISH SAUNA
Probably the most famous sauna is the Finnish sauna with an approximate temperature of 90°C und very low humidity.
First Tue. and every Thu., Sat., Sun. and on public holidays we offer our famous infusions.
On multiple levels you get offered a lot of space to relax and get heated up. As an experienced sauna goer, you take your seat on one of the higher levels to relax, or if you want to go slow just sit down on one of the colder lower levels. The spectacular view through the panoramic window on our swimming pool and some hot swimmers is included.
STEAM ROOM
We’ve got a new steam-room! Have some fun in the dusky and foggy labyrinth. Everything that helps you to relax and improves your well-being and improves the community feeling is warmly welcome here.
A steam-room is ideal for skin improvement and the recovery of your respiratory system. In contrast to the dry air in the Finnish sauna our steam room comes with a humidity of 100%. The steam helps do develop a pleasant climate that should not negatively affect the cardiovascular system.
SANARIUM/ORGANIC SAUNA
The samarium/organic sauna is a sauna with a temperature between 50 and 60°C max and about 50% humidity. The milder climate is soft to the circulatory system and perfect for people who are prone to circulatory or blood-pressure problems. We add scents to even improve your sauna experience.
Massages
Immersing yourself in the world of PLUTO also means immersing yourself in a world of relaxation. What better way to do this than with a massage from one of our certified masseurs?
Massages are currently only available on Sundays, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

What is PLUTO like?
PLUTO is quite simply a place dedicated to wellness.
It is spacious, full of nooks and crannies, diverse and intriguing. It is light, it is dark, it is intimate and it is spacious. We place great importance on cleanliness and hygiene. It is designed to be exciting, stimulating, cosy and modern. You should feel safe and completely at ease here. Respect and friendliness are essential.
We do not tolerate illegal drugs, violence or prostitution – all such behaviour will be reported to the authorities without exception.
PLUTO is certainly not some cheesy sex club straight out of the fantasies of an uninformed straight world – PLUTO is special!

What if I don’t want to — do I have to go along with everything?
No. A ‘no’ is enough — always.
The atmosphere at Pluto is open and sex-positive, but nobody is pressured or forced to participate.
If someone doesn’t respect your ‘no’, please speak to our staff immediately. We take this seriously and will take action — no questions asked.
Pluto is a safe space for you! For us, that’s not just a marketing term.
2. Your arrival at PLUTO
Where can I park my car?
The Allbau car park (Kastanienhöfe) offers a discounted rate especially for PLUTO guests. Here you can park from 11.00 am to 6.00 am – in line with our opening hours – for just €7.50. Who is allowed to enter PLUTO sauna?
Anyone who is perceived as a man at the entrance, is over 18 years of age and is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs is welcome to enter our sauna – regardless of whether they are heterosexual or homosexual. Trans men are also very welcome.
Intoxicated persons and anyone who appears likely to cause a disturbance will not be admitted.
Prostitution and the consumption or sale of illegal drugs are neither permitted nor tolerated. We will report such incidents to the police without exception.
I don’t look 29 — can I still get the youngSTARS rate?
Yes — as long as you have your ID with you. We look at the document, not your face.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer the discounted rate without valid ID — this applies without exception, even if you clearly look younger.
What do I need to bring with me?
Nothing, really. From towels (free to borrow) and flip-flops (compulsory) to condoms and lubricant (free) – you can borrow or buy everything here.
So there’s nothing to stop you from popping in to our gay sauna at the last minute.
What can I expect when I visit?
On the ground floor, you’ll find the Finnish sauna, the dining area and the cold-water swimming pool with a counter-current system.
The upper and lower floors are connected by a large, curved staircase that still hints at the 1960s architecture of the former department store.
On the upper floor, you’ll find the TV room, relaxation pods and plenty of opportunities for cruising.
In the basement, you’ll find a 4 × 4 m bubbling whirlpool, the oriental-inspired hammam with a large, heated marble slab, as well as our new XXL labyrinth steam sauna, a sanarium at 50–60 °C, and plenty of other ways to linger and enjoy yourself.
How busy does it get — especially at the weekend?
At weekends, hundreds of guests spread out across our three floors; at events like youngSTARS XXL, there are even nearly 600 men throughout the day — at 1,600 square metres, Pluto is big enough to accommodate them all.
If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you’ll find it in the sanarium or the relaxation areas.
If you want action: Friday evening and Saturday night are the liveliest times. But even if you arrive early in the day, you’ll find plenty of like-minded people – there’s a lid for every pot, every day of the week!
Do I need to have a certain body type?
No. At Pluto, all body types are welcome — every age, every shape, every type.
The diversity of our guests is part of what makes Pluto special. Nobody is judged here. If you’re still feeling self-conscious, that feeling will disappear once you’ve got changed, when everyone looks the same.
Is there a dress code?
There are a few rules regarding clothing – namely: no clothing!
Bath slippers and a sauna towel are the only things we wear here – as is customary in any sauna. Anyone who wishes to go completely naked on the ground or upper floor, even outside the saunas, is welcome to do so. In the bar area, however, please always wear a towel around your waist!
Things get really skimpy at our ‘Naked Fun’ events. On these days, the dress code for the entire upper floor is: naked. Have fun! 🙂
What happens when you visit a men’s sauna?
After a friendly welcome at the entrance, you’ll first head to the changing area.
If you’d like, we’ll provide you with a free towel to borrow, and for a few euros you can also hire the necessary slippers if you haven’t brought your own.
In other words: nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous visit to PLUTO – you don’t need to bring anything with you.
Once you’ve left your everyday belongings in the lockers, you’ll almost automatically find yourself in the bar area, where your wellness day begins. Explore PLUTO from here. Don’t get lost! 🙂
3. Your stay at our bathhouse
Do I need cash money at the bar/bistro?
No, you only pay by card or cash when you check out. We record your drinks and any other chargeable services via our till system on your locker key – so you can relax completely.
Will the visit appear on my credit card statement?
‘Pluto Sauna’ will appear on your statement.
If you prefer to pay discreetly, you can pay in cash — this is, of course, possible here and no problem at all.
Do you also offer food?
Yes — our bar serves hot snacks and light bites, which you can charge directly to your locker key. For a long visit — and some stay for up to 24 hours — we recommend having a bite to eat now and then. The bar is open throughout our opening hours.
Can I borrow towels for free?
A free rental towel is included in your admission fee. If you need slippers or more towels, you can rent them at the cash desk for a small rental fee. Loosing your towel is charged with € 10,-
For how long am I allowed to stay?
Every entrance but the 2 hours entrance are valid for 24 hours. If you want to stay even longer our POS system will charge you €3 per additional started hour.
Do you have cabins?
Sure, lads. You’ll find our private booths on the upper and lower floors — for those moments when you want to get away from it all. Each one is furnished differently; no two are alike. Sling, St. Andrew’s cross, bench or mirror. You certainly won’t get bored.
You can’t book them or reserve them for a specific time — just pop in, lie down and enjoy.

Is there a smoker lounge?
We have a small smoker’s lounge, so no one must leave our place just to have a cigarette.
Do you have a steam sauna?
We have a spacious steam sauna! Enjoy yourself in our dimly lit labyrinth. We are happy to support anything that promotes relaxation and well-being and fosters a sense of community.
Incidentally, a steam sauna (or steam bath) is ideal for cleansing the skin and soothing the respiratory tract. Unlike the rather ‘dry’ air in a Finnish sauna, the steam sauna has 100 per cent humidity. The steam creates a cosy atmosphere that shouldn’t put any strain on the heart and circulatory system.
Can I take pictures or record videos?
Privacy, discretion and intimacy are most important to us. To allow every guest a stress-free time the recording of pictures and videos is prohibited.
Can I make an infusion at the Finnish sauna myself?
Of course! Just ask at the bar about our steam room scents.
You can choose your favourite blend from over 40 different scents.
In addition, we hold Aufguss sessions in the dry sauna on the ground floor every hour on the hour on the first Tuesday of the month from 6 pm to 10 pm, every Thursday from 6 pm to 10 pm, every Saturday from 6 pm to 10 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 12 noon to 9 pm.

4. Questions about specials and rates
When does PLUTO@Night apply?
If I arrive at your place at midnight on Friday, do I pay the @Night rate or does that already count as Saturday?
That counts as arriving on Saturday. The PLUTO@Night rate applies from Monday 0.00 am to Friday 0.00 am (except if it is a holiday).
What happens if I lose my rental towel?
As in all other saunas, the following applies here too: pay attention! If you lose your rental towel, forget it or a *** takes your towel you must unfortunately pay for the towel at the exit. This will cost you € 10.00.
How works ‘PLUTO BLUE CARD MONDAY’?
Can I redeem the voucher for free admission on any Monday?
No. Sorry. If Monday is a holiday we don’t issue vouchers and you can’t redeem them. And please note that the voucher is only valid for 30 days.
Is the voucher personal?
No. If you wish, you can do a friend a favor and give the gift card to him.
How do the ROMEO Group and PLUTO-DIGITAL Thursday work?
To be added to the PLUTO group, go to ROMEO via a web browser (not the app) and search for the PLUTO group.
Request to join and we’ll add you in no time.
As a group member, you’ll automatically receive the password for discounted entry to PLUTO-DIGITAL Thursdays in good time. On Romeo, this is always for the third and fifth Thursday of the month.
The group also offers you the chance to arrange to meet up with other PLUTO enthusiasts in the sauna, have a chat, or get answers to your sauna questions from guys who are experienced PLUTO-goers.

5. Hygiene
How is the water quality?
The water in our pools is cleaned and disinfected in several stages and regularly topped up with fresh water. Water analyses are carried out frequently to check the effectiveness of the disinfection process. In addition, monthly samples are taken by the Institute for Applied Building and Swimming Pool Hygiene (LVHT). Our pool water has been proven to meet the highest quality standards.
Every Wednesday, we completely change the water in the pool and the hot tub. Due to the water change, the hot tub maybe does not reach the optimum temperature (36°-37°) until around 5.00 pm on Wednesdays.
Are there French-style toilets?
We have two French-style toilets — one on the upper floor and one in the basement. Soap and hand sanitiser are always available. You can buy flush caps at the ticket office or bring your own.
Do you have shower gel, lubricant or condoms?
Yes – we provide free shower gel in all shower areas.
Yes – there is lubricant in all cubicles.
Yes – there are dispensers with free PLUTO condoms on every floor.
What is “Der Doktor kommt”?
Once a month (Oct.–May), we offer anonymous, free and straightforward STI tests.
In partnership with AIDS-Hilfe Essen and Herzenslust.

6. Air quality at PLUTO
How is the air quality at PLUTO?
Our premises are equipped with a new ventilation system with an environment friendly recuperator. We work with 100% fresh air. With the help of our new, electronically controlled, ventilation system the air at PLUTO is exchanged with fresh air continuously.

Do you have vouchers?
